The soul of a centuries-old jewelry store reinterpreted through a dialogue between history and contemporaneity.
The Brief
The project proposes the integral renovation of Laguarda Joiers, the oldest jewelry store on La Rambla, founded in 1909. The challenge was to transform a historical and compartmentalized space into an open, functional and coherent environment with its legacy. The proposal seeks to maintain the classic essence of the premises, reinterpreting it from a contemporary perspective where light, color and proportion coexist in harmony.
Project Scope
The intervention is based on respect for the history of Laguarda Joiers and the need to update its spatial language. The premises, of small dimensions, are reorganized to optimize circulation and enhance the visual connection between the two facades: the one facing La Rambla and the one facing the Plaza de Sant Josep and the La Boquería Market.
The design introduces a central dividing piece of furniture that articulates the public and work areas without losing fluidity. This element, together with a light gray lacquered perimeter strip that houses display cases and storage, structures the space with precision and lightness. Above, an indigo blue stucco wall rises to the ceiling, providing chromatic depth and a feeling of greater spaciousness.
Transparency, light and visual continuity define the new character of the jewelry store. Elevated shop windows, glass windows that seem to float and a carefully studied side entrance create a dynamic relationship between interior and exterior.
Ujo+partners developed the entire process—from concept to final execution—, ensuring an intervention that respects the historical identity of Laguarda Joiers while projecting its legacy into the present. The result is a jewelry store that combines tradition, functionality and a refined contemporary sense.
Between the indigo blue and the light of La Rambla, a jewelry store is reborn without losing its essence, where history shines with a new and timeless elegance.
